Festival Info

Welcome to Adelaide Film Festival (AFF), South Australia's premier screen event. AFF is an annual celebration of courageous cinema, where filmmakers and audiences come together for two weeks of local and international film premieres, red carpet events, moving image exhibitions, talks, parties and more.

See in the dark this October

AFF 2024 takes place from 23 October to 3 November across multiple Adelaide cinemas and venues and is open to everyone. We encourage you to purchase an individual ticket or a multiple film pass, explore our program, pick something unexpected and see the world in a new light.

Cinema for everyone

AFF welcomes audiences and industry guests alike to the state and its eclectic cinema theatres. The festival prides itself on its warmth and inclusivity — regardless of whether you prefer drama or comedy, horror or romance, the familiar or the strange! We aim to host events that cater to all ages and accessibilities. So come in, take a seat, surrender to the screen and be swallowed up by the story.

A window to the now

Named as one of the top 50 film festivals in the world by Variety, AFF has a reputation for being distinct and innovative. We curate and screen the latest and greatest features, shorts, documentaries and moving image works. The festival takes place immediately after the Venice International Film Festival and Toronto International Film Festival, signifying the beginning of the awards season. At AFF you’ll find films you can’t see anywhere else — from both emerging and established Australian and global talent.

From pitch to premiere

AFF was the first Australian film festival to establish an investment fund, which has seeded and premiered over 150 projects, including some of the most significant Australian films of the last two decades — see our slate here. The festival is also committed to supporting practices at the intersection of film, art and new media with a filmmaker and artist development AFF Expand Lab, an educational AFF Youth program, and other industry initiatives and experiences.

Ticketing

All films start at the advertised session time with very few ads, so please be on time. For red carpet events, the red carpet will begin 30 minutes before the session time. See our Ticketing Info page for more information on start times, how to book and ticketing access.
