Train the Trainer –  Full Program

Introduction– The contemporary screen industry presented by Beth Neate, Head of Production and Development, South Australian Film Corporation.

  • Role of the SAFC,
  • Overview of the industry – national, South Australia and internationally,
  • Where are the existing and up-coming opportunities in SA for the next generation?

Session 1: Hear from a SA Screen Production companies –   Producer Kirsty Stark, Epic Films,  Group Managing Director, Dale Roberts, Kojo Group. and Writer/Director Matt Vesley, Development Manager, Closer Productions.

  • Examples of work,
  • How do production companies operate, how do they develop work and recruit the next generation?
  • What kind of qualities, skills and experiences will give the next generation an advantage?

Session 2: VFX Industry in SA – Presented by Anna Hodge, Rising Sun Pictures.

  • Examples of work
  • How does the VFX Industry work in SA, how do they recruit?
  • What kind of qualities, skills and experiences will give the next generation an advantage?

Session 3: The Games Sector in SA – Introduction to Mighty Kingdom presented by Chief Product Officer, Ella Macintyre.

  • Games are a growing part of the creative industries in South Australia, and screen skills are transferrable to games and vice versa. How do games companies develop work and talent, what are the pathways into the games industry?

Session 4– Ash Page, MAPS Film School Course Director 

MAPS has trained a number of filmmakers who have accelerated rapidly into the industry. Ashlee, an award-winning short filmmaker, will talk about several students’ pathways into the industry highlighting the varying methodologies used at MAPS to teach filmmaking.

 

Session 5– Cinematography & Lightening – presented by the Australian Cinematographers Society Daniel Charlton (Pro AV Solutions) and Cinematographer, Dave Gregan (Love, Guns and Level Ups, Hotel Mumbai).

Daniel and Dave will discuss new directions in cameras and lights– how to make that work in your classroom – ( including suitable replacements to industry-level gear).

 

Session 6– Editing (David Banbury)

For 30 years David has been one of Australia’s leading documentary editors winning in 2013 the Foxtel Documentary Prize at the Sydney Film Festival for Buckskin. In the same year, he was nominated for AACTA’s best feature documentary for Sons and Mothers. David will demonstrate a few example edits, speak on the collaborative nature of the editor’s role and discuss current trends in the industry.

 

Session 7  – Sound Pete Best (Best FX)

Pete is an expert on producing the soundtrack from recording to mixing to allow a narrative to ‘sing’ on screen. He will talk about the skills and qualities you require to build a career in screen sound as well as current software and trends.  His credits include Wolf Creek (2005), The Babadook (2014) and Hotel Mumbai (2018)
