AFF 2024 Dates Announced

Adelaide Film Festival announces 2024 dates and opens film submissions

AFF has announced that the 2024 Festival dates will be October 23 – November 3, with passes for next year's festival now available!

Submissions are also now open to be apart of the 2024 Adelaide Film Festival. The Festival is renowned for championing new talent alongside the must-see films of world cinema. A number of unsolicited submissions have won the official competition in previous years and the submissions have been a great source for uncovering new talent. The 2023 Adelaide Film Festival posted the biggest attendance on record with a 15% increase in box office from 2022, and 81% increase in box office on the last pre-pandemic edition in 2018 - an extraordinary vote of confidence from audiences that cinematic storytelling is in high demand.  The festival presented 141 films from 42 countries across 198 sessions and five Adelaide cinemas. There were 28 world premieres, 29 Australian premieres, 31 South Australian films, 11 Adelaide Film Festival Investment Fund premieres as well as the AFF Youth program, a Spotlight on Indonesian films program and the innovative EXPAND Lab, an initiative focussed on the development of large-scale projection, immersive or gallery specific work that supported participation by more than 30 artists.

Also announced this week, artist Archie Moore will be the 2024 Adelaide Film Festival and Samstag Moving Image Commission. Archie Moore (Kamilaroi/Bigambul) will present a new moving image work for an exhibition at Samstag with the Adelaide Film Festival in 2024.

“2023 was a massive year for the Adelaide Film Festival as we moved to an annual event and welcomed a record number of people attending.  It’s incredibly exciting to see so many people from Adelaide, South Australia and around the country embracing our program of films that are bold, provocative and entertaining.  We can’t wait to present the 21st iteration next year -  there are surprises in store!” said Mat Kesting, Adelaide Film Festival CEO & Creative Director.

Liz Watts, Head of Film & Television (Aus) at See-Saw Films and one of the producers of the 2023 Opening Night Film, The Royal Hotel, said:

It was an absolute delight to open this year's Adelaide Film Festival with our film The Royal Hotel. The audience reception was incredible; at once enthusiastic and contemplative, with a great sensitivity to the nuances of the story. The generosity and professionalism of the AFF team made our time in Adelaide a highlight of the festival season, and we very much value the Festival as a brilliant launching pad for the film in Australia!”
