Simon Portus was born in Sydney in 1973. He completed a BA majoring in Film and Theatre at the University of New South Wales in 2000. Simon’s award winning short film Adrift was funded by the NSW Film and Television Office's Young Filmmakers Fund in 2005. Adrift premiered at the Sydney Film Festival Dendy Awards in 2006. Simon’s next film Tomorrow premiered at the 59th Berlin Film Festival in 2009. Tomorrow went on to win Best Film, Best Direction and Best Actor at the St Kilda Film Festival. The film was nominated for an AWGIE award and an ADG award and has been licensed in a number of territories around the world. Simon’s latest short film Passengers was funded through Screen Australia’s prestigious ‘Hot Shots’ initiative, and will premiere in 2017. All of Simon’s short films have been made in partnership with producer David Curzon. Their feature film project Dog Eat Dog was developed through Screen NSW’s Aurora initiative and they are now working on their script for the suburban thriller Behind Closed Doors.
Simon lives with his family on the mid north coast of NSW in Australia.
