Nobody's Child Unclassified 18+
South Australian Premiere
Lolly has always searched for the parents that abandoned her and her sister DeDe, believing that finding them will right all wrongs. Her quest leads her into an adult world which, it seems, is no place for a child. The answers Lolly seeks are hidden in the unspoken past. As the doors close on her efforts, Lolly is faced with the harshness of reality. Nobody’s Child is a coming-of-age story about a young girl searching for her identity.

CJ Friday’s given name is Celeste Joy Franklin. Celeste’s adoption of the first two initials of her given names with the name Friday is in recognition of her family origins. Celeste’s mother’s Aboriginality has been recognised by the tribes of the Cairns community in Queensland, Australia. Celeste also has Indigenous links to the South Sea Islanders through her great great grandfather, who was stolen as a child from his home to work in the cane fields of northern Queensland as a Kanaka. Celeste holds a day-job as a primary school teacher in Western Australia. Her work has taken her throughout Western Australia - from the northernmost tip of the Kimberley working with the Bardi people, into the desert of the Pilbara with the Martu people and with the children of miners. In the Perth metropolitan area Celeste taught English as an additional language to incoming migrants and refugees and then on to Rottnest Island (Wadjemup) where she managed the wild and free children of this small island community. The breadth of Celeste’s experience through work and travel feeds into her practice as a filmmaker. Celeste has extensive experience in the film industry, spending fifteen years working as a professional costume standby in the Australian industry. She has honed her writing skills and Nobody’s Child is the first short film Celeste has written and directed.
