Applications are now open for the third and final HIVE LAB – to be hosted during this year’s Adelaide Film Festival (October 15-25).
An initiative of the Adelaide Film Festival (AFF), in partnership with the Australia Council for the Arts, Screen Australia, ABC Arts and South Australian Film Corporation, the HIVE LAB is a unique workshop to foster new opportunities for talent working in creative areas, such as theatre, art, dance and other non cinematic fields to collaborate with traditional screen practitioners.
Participants are asked to bring a project idea into the HIVE LAB, which will run at AFF from October 18-21.
This year, acclaimed filmmaker and artist Lynette Wallworth will lead the LAB. Lynette’s first feature length film Tender was supported through the inaugural HIVE FUND, having its world premiere at the 2013 AFF and going on to be in Competition at the Sydney and London Film Festivals and winning Best TV Documentary at the 2015 AACTA Awards.

HIVE is a rare and fine opportunity for Australian artists and filmmakers and the ongoing Lab partnership with Australia Council, ABC, Screen Australia and South Australian Film Corp is most welcomed.
Screen Australia Head of Production, Sally Caplan said: “Some amazing documentary and film projects have come out of this initiative. It is great to see talent from other fields expressing themselves so well in the cinematic form and we at SA, are delighted to contribute to this program again.”

Acting Head of ABC Arts, Mandy Chang said: “The Hive Lab has played an important role in discovering new and exciting filmmaking talent from the best practitioners in other arts disciplines such as the theatre and the visual arts. The team at ABC Arts are thrilled to be collaborating with our partners once again on this third Hive initiative and we keenly look forward to seeing the next batch of films that emerge from this process.”
South Australian Film Corporation CEO Annabelle Sheehan said: “Bringing artists and filmmakers together to explore brave, bold ideas provides an opportunity for different types of projects to receive support and funding and for them to reach audiences across multiple platforms. The South Australian Film Corporation is proud to once again support HIVE LAB and the Adelaide Film Festival.”
HIVE LAB leader Lynette Wallworth said: “As a recipient of the Hive Fund and a participant and mentor at Hive Labs I am thrilled to facilitate this process. While the HIVE Fund secures the creation of at least two major new works that would otherwise not be created, the LAB fosters a host of new creative partnerships that will result in innovation for the next decade.
Applications for HIVE LAB #3 close August 6, 2015. Participants will be announced early September.
