The Adelaide Film Festival (AFF) has announced the 21 finalists in the Statewide Schools Filmmaking Competition.

AFF Youth had 41 submissions to the Statewide Schools Filmmaking Competition, with 21 selected as finalists.  These short films will be celebrated and screened at a Red Carpet Gala event on Sunday 25 July from 3pm at Palace Nova Eastend, with encore screenings on Friday 30 July. Internationally acclaimed Adelaide-based actress, writer and director Tilda Cobham-Hervey, the Patron of AFF Youth, will attend the Red Carpet Gala.

An experienced panel of South Australian screen professionals will judge the films, with audiences able to watch the entries online and vote for the audience favourite.   Four prizes will be awarded:

  • Best South Australian Primary School Film (Cash Prize: $500)
  • Best South Australian Middle School Film (Cash Prize $500)
  • University of South Australia and Rising Sun Pictures Best High School Film (Cash Prize: $1000)
  • SA Power Networks People’s Choice Award (Cash prize: $1,000) for the audience favourite film created by South Australian students (available to high, middle or primary school).

John Gardner, MP, Minister for Education, said: “I’d like to congratulate these aspiring young film critics and film makers. It is an extraordinarily exciting time to be a part of the screen industry in South Australia with the producers of global productions choosing to film right here in our state. The AFF Youth program provides a wonderful opportunity for students to learn and explore potential career pathways in this field and I thank those experienced screen professionals who are giving back to the film industry through this festival.”

Minister for Innovation and Skills David Pisoni offered his congratulations to the Adelaide Film Festival on the AFF Youth Program: “The Marshall Government is proud to support this exciting new initiative which supports young South Australians to aspire to rewarding careers in screen industry.”
