Adelaide Film Festival plays respect to groundbreaking American filmmaker Shirley Clarke. A dedicated activist and pivotal figure in the New American Cinema, Clarke has explored personal and political freedoms through dance, film and video art. Having its Australian premiere is Portrait of Jason (1967). Widely considered to be her masterpiece, this is a unique portrait of a gay, black hustler, filmed over 12 hours in Clarke’s apartment at the Chelsea Hotel. Other features from Clarke will include Ornette: Made in America (1986); Cool World (1964); and The Connection (1961).
