Acknowledgement of Country

Adelaide Film Festival acknowledges that we work and celebrate screen culture on Kaurna Country. We pay our respects to Kaurna Elders past, present and emerging and recognise their culture, beliefs, and relationship with the Adelaide Plains. We would also like to acknowledge Traditional Owners of Country throughout Australia as the first storytellers.

Us Mob and No Fixed Address Reunite for 'Wrong Side...' at AFF

This Saturday is your one chance to catch the newly restored Wrong Side of the Road on the big screen at Adelaide Film Festival. Join this historic gathering of the (surviving) original cast, and join the bands for the free reunion gig afterwards!

The recent restoration of this 1981 film, which David Stratton once called “perhaps the most authentic Aboriginal film of the 80s”, should have extra significance in Adelaide. Us Mob and No Fixed Address were two local bands who journeyed around the Port, Point Pearce and points in between, playing rock, reggae and getting hassled by the cops—all unavoidable parts of Aboriginal culture in the 1980s.

The film has a loose narrative structure and a rough improvised energy that make it stand out as one of the most daring Australian films of the time. Wrong Side is a film that South Australians should be proud of. A film that shows that music and film can engage with a community and can help make people strong.

This newly restored film will be bringing it home for all of its creators and legions of fans across the last 30 years and will be followed by a reunion jam with the original band members of Us Mob and No Fixed Address at The Producers Hotel, 253 Grenfell St, Adelaide.

Wrong Side of the Road screens Saturday 19 October, 4.30pm at Palace Nova Cinemas 1 & 7. Tickets available online, by calling our Box Office on 7070 0999 or by visiting them at 6 Cinema Place, Adelaide.
