SONS & Mothers World Premiere & panel discussion this Sunday
SONS & Mothers, the much anticipated feature documentary from POP Pictures screens this Sunday 20 October at Adelaide Film Festival.
For over 18 months award winning film director Christopher Houghton watched the Men’s Ensemble of No Strings Attached Theatre of Disability embark on a creative process that created the multi-award winning show, Sons and Mothers. The film captures the creation of this remarkable piece of theatre from the seed of an idea to a fully realised play.
"Theatre is a transitory art form: once it’s over ... it’s over," says PJ Rose, Artistic Director of No Strings Attached.
"What’s extraordinary about Christopher’s film is not only the beauty and accuracy of the images his cameras capture for all time. The film SONS & mothers gets inside the creative spirits of the performers in a way that defies the passage of time; it’s not a record of the play, it’s an intimate visit to the hearts of these sons and mothers."
SONS & mothers encourage audiences to leave their views of disability at the door and instead, through the eyes of the Men’s Ensemble, experience what it is like to be simply human.
To celebrate the World Premiere at AFF this Sunday there will be full disability access at The Regal Theatre with AUSLAN interpreters, live audio description and wheelchair access.
The screening will be followed by a panel discussion chaired by Kelly Vincent MLC. Sitting alongside her will be UK performer Julie McNamara, members of the Men’s Ensemble and local artist Gaelle Mellis as they discuss the representation of disabled artists in the arts.
The World Premiere of SONS & Mothers will be held Sunday, 20 October, 12 noon at The Regal Cinema. Tickets are available online, by calling our Box Office on 7070 0999 or by visiting them at 6 Cinema Place, Adelaide. Please advise staff of any access requirements when booking.
