What are your favourite film/s?
It’s so difficult to pick a favourite film, there are so many films that have stayed with me for so long. ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ (1946) I have watched over and over again, it’s a great Christmas favourite, very uplifting, joyful and entertaining. A more recent film I love is ‘The Great Beauty’ (2013), it’s a celebration and satire of Rome and its decadence, culture, politics and history. There is always so much to uncover on every viewing of this complex and elegant film. I also love Agnès Varda’s ‘The Gleaners and I’ (2000). It is an award winning documentary following Varda through France and the life of the gleaners, who gather the leftovers after a crop harvest. It’s a celebration of the lives of these people with an enchanting voice over by Varda who also appears in the film.
What's a really underrated film you love that no one else likes/ knows about?
The Sacrifice by Andrei Tarkovsky – it’s not that underrated, it won the Grand Prix at Cannes in 1986. But it’s not readily available to watch online and it’s worth watching many times, it is Tarkovsky’s final film.
What's your go-to cinema snack and/ or drink?
A feature length glass of Shiraz.
What's your favourite spot in Adelaide?
Favourite restaurant Golden Boy, or Adelaide Park Lands Trail for a weekend bike ride.
