Grease is the word! Adelaide Film Festival takes over Showgrounds for Drive-in Event
The Adelaide Film Festival will pay respect to the outdoor big screen as it takes over the Adelaide Showground for a one-night-only City Drive-In double bill spectacular, featuring the classic musical Grease and a remake of the horror flick Patrick.
For one night only, on Saturday October 12, the Adelaide Showground and the Adelaide Film Festival will present a Drive-In event under the stars, with something for everyone.
The 1978 musical Grease, complete with follow-the-bouncing-ball sing-a-long subtitles will kick the evening off. Thirty five years on, and starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, Grease is still being discovered by new audiences, and still loved by those who have experienced it over and over. Gates open at 6.00pm, with Grease starting at 7.45pm.
Then, at 9.45pm, the remake of the 1978 classic Australian horror flick Patrick will screen. Directed by Mark Hartley, produced by legendary exploitation mogul Antony I. Ginnane (also producer of the 1978 version) and starring Rachel Griffiths and Sharni Vinson. Rated MA 15+, Patrick gives a nod to the old-school cult horror films and will have movie-goers on the edge of their (car) seats.
Ticketing and further information on both screenings are available here.
The Adelaide Film Festival opens next Thursday October 10, with the Australian premiere of the much-anticipated feature film Tracks, filmed in South Australia and starring Mia Wasikowska.
Tracks kicks off eleven days of the best Australian and internationally produced films, to be seen across a variety of screens including cinema, television, hand-held devices and gallery installations.
New work from Australian directors Rolf de Heer, Warwick Thornton, John Curran, Sophie Hyde, Eddie Martin, Wayne Blair and Rowan Woods lead the Australian feature selections, joining premiere films and documentaries from countries including East Timor, Chile, India, Iran, Japan, Romania and Russia.
The Festival will expand its program and audience reach as it extends outside postcode 5000 to Goodwood, Port Adelaide, Elizabeth, Mount Barker, Leabrook, McLaren Vale, Mt Gambier, Port Pirie, Noarlunga, Goolwa and Whyalla as well as its traditional city locations.
