Final teams announced for Film Lab round two
We're excited to announce the 3 successful teams going through this year’s Film Lab development program.
Film Lab: New Voices is a feature film skills development program cultivating a new generation of South Australian filmmakers. The program is a joint initiative of AFF and the South Australian Film Corporation (SAFC), in collaboration with Mercury CX and with the support of Screen Australia.
Three local filmmaking teams have been selected from a previously announced shortlist of 7, and will now enter an 11-month long development phase. The program will conclude with 1 project receiving a huge $400,000 to assist in its production. The final feature will then premiere at the 2024 Adelaide Film Festival.
The successful teams are:
• Writer/director Alies Sluiter and producer William Littleton
• Writer/director Emma Hough Hobbs, writer/director Leela Varghese and producer Tom Phillips
• Writer Travis Akbar, director Thibul Nettle and producer Joshua Trevorrow.
AFF CEO & Creative Director Mat Kesting said: “Adelaide Film Festival is thrilled to collaborate with our partners to launch Film Lab New Voices round two. Huge congratulations to the filmmakers selected for the program, which came from a remarkable and diverse field of new South Australian talent. We look forward to supporting the teams and unveiling the work selected for production at AFF 2024”.
CEO of the South Australian Film Corporation Kate Croser said: “With one feature film already moving into production from round one, and two other projects continuing with further development, this innovative program is already enabling South Australian ‘Greenlighters’ to obtain their first feature film credits, one of the most valuable tools for filmmakers to break through in the film and TV industry."
The first round of Film Lab funding was recently announced as being awarded to Monolith, from writer Lucy Campbell, director Matt Vesely and producer Bettina Hamilton. The production is already well underway, and will premiere at AFF 2022 this October.
