AFF in partnership with Illuminate Adelaide launches two new VR Projects

We're excited to announce the latest Adelaide Film Festival Investment Fund works.

These two Virtual Reality projects, presented in collaboration with Illuminate Adelaide, will also form part of the AFF Youth Film Festival, running July 26 to July 30 2021.

Square Circles VR
Friday July 16 to Saturday July 24

Square Circles VR is an immersive virtual reality work that draws upon William Barton’s Country, culture and dreaming. It uses emergent digital storytelling to create breathtaking visual landscapes, featuring Barton's visceral music, along with friend and collaborator violist Stephen King and the Australian String Quartet (ASQ).

Set to a score performed and recorded by Barton and the ASQ on Peramangk Country at Ukaria Cultural Centre, this stunning blend of music and visual artistry from Go Patterson Films and Jumpgate VR offers a rare fusion of culture and technology.

Monday July 26 to Sunday August 1

Presented by Illuminate Adelaide and Adelaide Film Festival.

A Monkeystack and Shackleton Epic Expedition Production.

Follow in the footsteps of adventurer and environmental scientist, Tim Jarvis, who recreates one of history’s greatest journeys - that of polar explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton. In 1914, Shackleton led the Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition - an attempt to be the first to cross Antarctica coast-to-coast. The events that transpired form one of History’s greatest stories of leadership and survival. A catastrophic yet beautiful experience highlighting the effect of climate change on the Antarctic region.

Director: James Calvert

Executive Producers: Tim Jarvis, Justin Wight & Rhys Sandery

Major Partner: Torrens University Australia

Supported by: Adelaide Film Festival Investment Fund, South Australian Film Corporation, Screen Australia, One Ocean, Kathmandu and Documentary Australia Foundation (DAF)
