ADL Film Fest Announces 2018 Festival And $1M Fund Opens
The biennial Adelaide Film Festival today announced that a full Festival, including a funding round of $1m for the ADL Film Fest Fund, will run again in October 2018.
Following the Festival’s 2017 screen celebration, themed Vive Le Punk, the 2018 Festival is a major boost to the South Australian screen industry.
The funding round, boosting the festival’s investment in industry production, will produce significant new feature films, interactive projects and moving image art work and have a sizeable economic impact.
The festival is calling for feature project submissions and application guidelines can be found online.
This new funding opportunity reinforces ADL Film Fest Fund as one of Australia’s most successful screen initiatives. The Fund has seen the launch of award-winning Australian screen creatives, the films being selected for all of the world’s leading festivals including Cannes, Berlin, Venice and Sundance, with titles including 52 Tuesdays, Charlie’s Country, Girl Asleep, Spear, Sam Klemke’s Time Machine, Samson & Delilah, Snowtown, Tracks, Mrs Carey’s Concert and Look Both Ways.
With a plethora of strong screen content being delivered through the ADL Film Fest Fund, in 2016 the festival held the successful ADL Film Fest Goes Rogue event. This special event festival saw the World Premiere of Osamah Sami’s Muslim rom-com Ali’s Wedding, screened a special work in progress version of David Stratton’s A Cinematic Life and treated audiences to the Australian Premiere of the interactive and internationally acclaimed Virtual Reality work Collisions by Lynette Wallworth.
The previous Adelaide Film Festival took place in 2015 and included world and Australian premieres of the ADL Film Fest Fund projects alongside its trademark innovative programming, which included the Australian premieres of six time Oscar® nominated film Carol and the now Oscar® nominated Australian production Tanna.
ADL Film Fest will run alongside a new sister event Hybrid World Adelaide, an interactive tech based event, for the digitally curious and the screen obsessed. Delivered by the AFF team, the event will be held at Tonsley Innovation Precinct from 4-8 October. For more information, go to hybridworldadelaide.org
Premier Jay Weatherill said: ‘For the next two years, Adelaide will be the centre of Australian screen innovation’.
“The continued success of this festival is testament to the creative industries in South Australia growing in both strength and scope and we’re proud to support the event in 2018.”
ADL Film Fest CEO and Artistic Director, Amanda Duthie said: “ADL Film Fest is thrilled to be running our festival and fund in back to back years. It is exciting to realise the potential of this extraordinary screen festival and we’re committed to working with the government on the possibility of annualising the event.”
“The ADL Film Fest and Fund is still young in the international landscape, but it continues to have a huge impact for audiences, for the screen industry and in telling Australian stories on screen.”
Adelaide Film Festival would not be possible without the support of Major Government Partner Arts South Australia and the long-standing support of Principal Partner Channel 9 and Major Partners Screen Australia, South Australian Film Corporation, Adelaide City Council and Flinders University.
