Adelaide audiences return in strong numbers for Cinema Reignite

On Saturday 11 July and Sunday 12 July, film lovers returned to the big screen for AFF’s Cinema Reignite  program.    

The two films shot in South Australia -  Escape  From Pretoria  and  Never Too Late - screened simultaneously across six locations  at  Palace Nova  East End and Prospect Cinemas,  GU Film House Glenelg  and Wallis Cinemas  Mitcham, Mt Barker and Noarlunga.   

South Australians were eager to get out of the house for a long overdue date with  the theatre; some visiting for the first time since March.  The Cinema Reignite program aimed to bring people back to the cinema to support some of our favourite venues and contribute towards the reemployment of cinema workers during one of the toughest years in recent memory.  

Friends of the festival and  lovers  of Australian stories  came out in force  to  support  their local  venue.  Sessions at several locations sold out  their socially distanced capacity and other  screenings  had  strong and promising numbers  proving  that the  magic of cinema  is needed  now more than ever.  

“Thriving cinemas are indicative of a strong economy, so AFF was thrilled to help support our local cinemas to ‘reignite’ after their COVID closures this year. It was so wonderful to present these locally made films on the big screen as they deserve,” said Adelaide Film Festival CEO  and  Creative Director Mat  Kesting.
