A Look At The Impressive Cast Of ‘The Nightingale’

Fresh from its World Premiere at Venice Film Festival (where it picked up the Special Jury Prize and Baykali Ganambarr won the Marcello Mastroianni Award for Best Young Actor), Jennifer Kent’s The Nightingale arrives in Adelaide for its Australian Premiere on Saturday 13 October. Early reviews for the feature have described the film as a “black Irish feminist ballad” and praised it as a “pretty magnificent mass of movie” and “absolutely extraordinary”.

In anticipation of the Australian Premiere, we’re looking back at the previous work of the film’s incredible cast.

Sam Claflin

Perhaps the film’s most well-known star, the Ipswich-born Claflin rose to stardom after his performance in the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean movie, and since then, he’s appeared in a wide range of projects including The Hunger Games franchise, Riot Club and the romantic comedy Love, Rosie. His turn in The Nightingale will be one of few times the actor has taken on a villainous role.

Aisling Franciosi

Perhaps best known to mainstream audiences for her role as Lyanna Stark in HBO’s Game of Thrones, Franciosi is an Irish-Italian actress who also had a recurring role on BBC Two’s hit series The Fall alongside Gillian Anderson and Jamie Dornan. In addition to Game of Thrones and The Fall, she was also seen alongside Lord of the Rings star, Sean Bean, in Legends. Franciosi’s role in The Nightingale is expected to catapult her to stardom.

Baykali Ganambarr

Acting is just one of the many talents of Australian actor Baykali Ganambarr, who is a member of hit dance group Djuki Mala. Known worldwide as a phenomenal performer, The Nightingale will mark Ganambarr’s on-screen debut. In the meantime before the Australian Premiere, here’s one of his excellent performances.

Damon Herriman

Adelaide-born Damon Herriman is making a name for himself in the entertainment world, recently being cast as criminal and cult leader Charles Manson in Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming epic Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. In the same week, it was also reported that Herriman would play Manson in season two of David Fincher’s Netflix series Mindhunter, leading to him being dubbed “the Hollywood Manson”. His previous credits include Secret City, Flesh and Bone and House of Wax.

Harry Greenwood

Son of Australian legend Hugo Weaving, Harry Greenwood appeared alongside Academy Award-nominated actor Andrew Garfield in worldwide hit Hacksaw Ridge. In addition to his role as Jago in The Nightingale, Greenwood will next appear in Justin Kurzel’s forthcoming The True History of the Kelly Gang, alongside Charlie Hunnam, Russell Crowe, Nicholas Hoult and George McKay.

The Australian Premiere of The Nightingale will take place on Saturday 13 October at 6pm. Tickets are available now.
