Acclaimed British multimedia, performance and installation artist Sue Austin will present the Southern Hemisphere premiere of her underwater, live art event ‘Creating the Spectacle!’ exclusively as part of the ADL Film Fest.
Dramatic and unexpected juxtapositions attach new and powerful narratives to the objecthood of the wheelchair. Austin’s art opens up debate around societal attitudes to disability through the presentation of empowered and empowering images.
Austin takes her wheelchair underwater to perform a stunningly beautiful work that will be filmed and projected poolside. Award winning Restless Dance Theatre will accompany Austin with a performance as part of this unique live art event.
“It’s shifting everyone on their axis in terms of their preconceptions of the most fundamental symbol of disability – the wheelchair.” – British Paraorchestra
Audiences can enjoy this performance at the poolside or underwater. Limited, premium, underwater admission is available by application only at the link below.

All participants must complete the medical form.
We determine one of two ticket prices for our Sue Austin diving experience, based on our assessment of the applications. Divers are required to have the right level of certification to participate. This is determined by Dive Shack.
If it is established that you need additional training to be eligible, you will need to attend a special Dive Shack training session. The price is $290, including training and the performance.
There will be two training sessions available on Friday 12th October, at 4pm and 7pm. Please note these dates/times and nominate your preference when applying.
If it is established by Dive Shack that you do not require additional training, the price is $140.
Payment will need to be processed prior to the Fri 12 Oct training session, or you will not be allowed to participate. To complete your ticket purchase, contact our Box Office on 08 7225 2729.
If you participate in the scuba diving training session, but decide during or after the session that you are not willing or capable of scuba diving for the performance, you will still need to pay $150 for the session.
Refunds will not be accepted for your ticket 24 hours prior to the performance if you are not able to attend.
