Adelaide Film Festival and The University of Adelaide together with J.M. Coetzee Centre for Creative Practice welcome you to an AFF Film Club screening of Waiting For The Barbarians, introduced by Nobel prize laureate and author J.M Coetzee.
Based on the acclaimed novel by J.M Coetzee, Waiting For The Barbarians stars Mark Rylance as The Magistrate, the administrator of an isolated outpost at the exterior of a sprawling, unnamed empire. Left to his own devices, he has built a peaceful if solitary existence by maintaining a careful relationship with the indigenous ‘Barbarians.’
But this relative stability is upset by the arrival of the belligerent Colonel (Johnny Depp) and his second-in-command (Robert Pattinson), who begin to interrogate the locals using horrifying methods, and cause The Magistrate to suffer a crisis of conscience and morality as he begins to question who the real barbarians are…
All tickets to this screening of WAITING FOR THE BARBARIANS are General Admission with seating allocated upon arrival in line with Palace Nova Cinema’s Covid-Safe plan.
