“a wise and winsome coming-of-age story” (IndieWire)

Saruul is a shy and rather aimless Mongolian student but when she agrees to fill in at a fellow student’s retail job, she discovers herself working in a sex shop. Dispensing Viagra and penis enlargement devices is all well and good, but the real breakthrough here is her budding friendship with the store owner, an older woman who preaches the abandonment of sexual inhibition. Their odd-couple relationship is not only very funny, but it also forms the basis for a tone-perfect study of growing up, growing old, and living without fear in your heart. Best Film, New York Asian Film Festival.

“Sengedorj has a magic touch with young people and not only in directing them but also in seeing through their eyes and telling their stories.” (Asian Movie Pulse)

“Quirky yet heartfelt, The Sales Girl sheds new light on the concerns of young people in Mongolia” (Windows on Worlds)

“stays true to its wry sensibilities from start to finish, with several endearing scenes devoted to Saruul’s silly-sweet exploration of her own sexuality, but any tawdriness is leveraged into a searching and heartfelt meditation on the nature of happiness in a world that seldom has much of it to offer. (IndieWire)
