The world premiere of a new sci-fi

Hong Kong’s bleak future? Sometimes you have to address social issues through the lens of genres, and sci-fi has a rich heritage here. You know the drill: future dystopia, environmental disaster, cities smashed in the most spectacular of ways. Roland Emmerich has made a career of this, but there is a new kid emerging from the rubble with this Hong Kong production. The melting polar ice-caps spawn floods and tidal waves reducing Hong Kong’s cityscape to a smattering of buildings left protruding from the elevated waterline. The CGI effects alone are worth the price of admission. But there’s more. Asha, a hitherto carefree young woman is forced to find new reserves of strength as she adapts and adopts when a young girl arrives in her hideout. Together they will face the dangers thrown up by man and nature.
