AFF invited two emerging artists with a passion for moving image, popular culture and cinema to make works thematically responding to a selection of our curated films.

AFF is proud to present this year’s works:

Tactile, Self  by Georgia Button
A response to ideas of self-expression and authenticity through fashion, prevalent throughout Alison Ellwood’s documentary ‘The Go-Go’s’. Shot entirely through a macro lens, Tactile, Self is a sensorial exploration of the artist’s own experiences of comfort and closeness to the materials and objects that are closely tied to her sense of self.

Trailblazer by Sarah Tickle
A montage of the woman in Australian cinema, is a response to the Adelaide Film Festival’s 2020 feature film, Iryna Tsilyk’s The Earth Is Blue as an Orange (2020). This feature film’s beautiful family epic inspired Tickle to reflect on older generations paving the way for the new.

Please join us at the Newmarch Gallery for the opening on Thursday 15 October from 5pm-6pm.

View these works being projected during the Festival nightly from 6pm:
    – Newmarch Gallery at Payinthi, 128 Prospect Road, Prospect
    – Outdoor Media Screens at the Adelaide Festival Centre, King William Road, Adelaide
    – Target – Centrepoint Adelaide, Cnr. Rundle and Pultney Street, Adelaide

This project has been developed in partnership with Adelaide Central School of Art, which has also generously funded the mentoring for the two artists from internationally acclaimed collective SODA_JERK.
