Speak now or forever hold your peace.

Inspired by a true story this film explores the bias of Brazil’s outback and reflects on the traps of romantic love. Like many of her friends working in a sun-soaked papaya plantation in provincial Brazil, Paloma (Kika Sena), dreams of a traditional Catholic wedding with all the frilly trimmings. Unlike her friends, Paloma is a trans woman. Old and new cultural norms collide as the singular Paloma stops at nothing to wed her boyfriend Ze, brushing up against casual social prejudice, an inflexible local priest, and targeted aggression. When Paloma gets creative in pursuit of her dream, she finds that her quest for community approval has an individual cost. Driven by an astonishing central performance, Paloma is as tender yet unflinching as its lead character.

“Kika Sena puts in an exceptional performance as a Brazilian trans woman desperate for a church wedding.” (Screen Daily)
