AFF 2023

Adelaide Film Festival 18 - 19 Oct 2023
In our first year as an annual festival, we set a new box office record. The festival saw a 15% increase on the previous year’s ticket sales and a massive 81% increase on the last pre-pandemic event in 2018, thanks to your support!
The AFF 2023 program offered audiences an opportunity to ‘see in the dark’ with a festival program featuring directorial debuts, acclaimed stars, and winners from Cannes, Venice and Sundance.
The festival opened with Kitty Green’s SA-made outback thriller The Royal Hotel, and featured gala events for an AFF Investment Fund special preview of Speedway by Luke Rynderman and Adam Kamien, and world premiere of MY NAME’S BEN FOLDS i play piano by Scott Hicks. Plus, a highly popular Music on Film program with documentaries on the likes of The Birthday Party, Indigo Girls, Joan Baez, Daniel Johns and David Helfgott taking to the stage and screen.
We also cast a spotlight on the cinema of our close neighbour Indonesia, with filmmakers and actors touching down in Adelaide to be our guests for the festival.
Mat Kesting, AFF CEO & Creative Director, said: “I’m incredibly proud of the work of the AFF team in creating a festival that has been so warmly embraced by audiences and one that nurtures screen culture and builds new audience for the cinema arts. My thanks to the South Australian Government for their continued and passionate support for the festival and to our many other partners and sponsors who have contributed to making AFF23 our most successful yet.”
