Games aren’t a linear narrative like Film and TV, with the player having a big part on the story telling – Mighty Kingdom is known for its deep narrative for games, and we will share our experience with you.

Presenters: Francis Warner and James O'Connor

Francis Warner – Producer
Francis Warner has been with Mighty Kingdom for six years, working first as a producer and more recently as a narrative designer. He has shipped successful games for clients such as LEGO, Disney, and Sony Pictures. He enjoys using narrative in games to create emotional depth for players, and is particularly interested in using comedy in games. Francis’s career started in film, working as a production coordinator and VFX coordinator on films for studios including Fox, Universal, DreamWorks, and Marvel before relocating from Los Angeles to Adelaide and joining Mighty Kingdom.

James O'Connor – Narrative Designer
James O'Connor is a narrative designer at Mighty Kingdom. He has previously worked as a critic and academic for publications including Hyper, Mania, GameSpot, and many more. His Masters thesis, "The Character Feels That Way, Not Me": Player Driven Narrative Experiences In Grand Theft Auto IV was published in 2016. He watches Mad Max: Fury Road at least once a year.

This session is available for general public bookings. Tertiary students, industry professionals and families are encouraged to participate and join the conversation!

Update: 21/07

In light of the COVID-19 lockdown beginning on July 21st, the Adelaide Film Festival Youth is disappointed to announce that the inaugural edition of the festival, due to begin on July 25th, will not proceed as planned.
Safety is our primary concern.
We are consulting with SA Health and Department for Education to explore potential alternative presentation dates and modes, and encourage audiences to hold onto their tickets until contacted by our Box Office team.
